The disaster of a House GOP tax bill actually would take away a tax exemption for teachers who go “above and beyond” their duties and spend out of their own pockets for classroom supplies.

Currently, teachers can deduct $250 of those expenses off their taxes. That goes away under the House GOP tax plan — all under the guise of making filling easier. But we know the real reason. They need any and all money teachers may save to help pay for their cuts for the wealthiest individuals and corporations.

Let’s send a message to Congress on behalf of all our teachers who go that extra mile every day on behalf of their students. Tell House Republicans we won’t let them grab back the few dollars a teacher may gain from this exemption just to fund their obscene tax cuts for the wealthy.
